Folding
I don't know who this guy is or where he came from but this is an excellent example of how to properly fold a duck. Hell, he's even a lefty like Jenny X. Unlike Jenny X though, he knows when to hold em - knows when to fold em. Next time you are out at the park or golf course this summer and see some green headed bastard swimming around like they own the place remember this photo. The next time you see that duck he should look like this.
God Bless Charlton Heston.

back in the groove.
Well well well. Today the team went back to the roots of the hunting process. We decided it would be a good day for some target practice. Never being ones to let you down it did not go as originaly planned.
If you must go to Sauvies Island to do your skeet shooting remember that lead shot is not allowed there. Sometimes if you only bring lead shot you have to backtrack and go to Fred Meyers to pick up STEEL shot. Fortunately we are used to backtracking off Sauvies. Once the two+ hour delay was completed we began to get some practice rounds off.
About then the Warden shows up and confirms that you are, in fact, using steel shot to the tune of $150 ticket if you aren't. Good thing the team always follows protocall. Remember too that cows are not part of the shooting range, even if the bastards are begging for a good pasting. Mmmmmm, Bar-b-que.
I have included a picture of todays events to illisturate to you exactly what shooting skeet is all about. We will let you be the judge of who got the most clays in a round. (It was me of course)
God Bless Charlton Heston.

Politicians Killed While hunting.
George Washington Barnett (1793-1848) Accidentally shot himself in the foot while hunting, in August 1854; the wound never healed, and though his leg was later amputated, he died as a result, in Hempstead, Waller County, Tex., April 9, 1862
Claiborne Hooper Phillips (1847-1886) Accidentally shot and killed while on a hunting trip, near Britton, Marshall County, Dakota Territory (now S.Dak.), September 10, 1886.
Lawrence Sullivan Ross (1838-1898) While on a hunting trip along the Navasota River, he became ill and died, January 3, 1898.
Athelston Gaston (1838-1907) Accidentally shot and killed while on a hunting trip at Lake Edward, Quebec, September 23, 1907.
Paul Oscar Husting (1866-1917) Accidentally killed while duck hunting on Rush Lake, near Pickett, Winnebago County, Wis., October 21, 1917.
Edward Coke Mann (1880-1931) While returning from a hunting trip, was accidentally shot and killed, near Rowesville, Orangeburg County, S.C., November 11, 1931.
Glad I don't live in Florida
WATERFOWLING ON THE PACIFIC FLYWAYOne of the great things about the West Coast is the excellent waterfowl hunting opportunities that are available on public land. And, we have two distinct populations of birds to hunt on these public shooting areas - ducks produced by local nesting and ducks which migrate down from nesting areas in Alaska and Canada. For most of us on the Pacific Flyway, mallard, widgeon, teal and gadwall are the ducks we bring home, with mallards the duck we value the most.
Northern shovelers, ringnecks, wood ducks, buffleheads and bluebills are secondary ducks that frequent the flyway and may be the quarry of choice, depending on terrain and water type. Canvasbacks, redheads and sprig (pintails) are found in quantity on portions of the flyway, but each species has such a reduced limit that they do not form a high percentage of the bag these days.
Public shooting areas exist on most state and federal wildlife areas. First established by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1908, the National Wildlife Refuge System has been expanded extensively over the years. Augmented by state and municipal wildlife areas, hunters use reservations, lottery and sweat lines to access sections that are open to public hunting. If you look around, odds are you will find a public shooting area within an hour's drive of your home. Check local licensing resources, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and state fish and game offices and Web sites to locate them. Information and links to state specific areas can be accessed at the Game & Fish website at http://gameandfish.about.com.
Hunting waterfowl on public land is physically demanding. The learning curve can be steep and an investment in equipment is mandatory. But if you are willing to brave the cold and get dirty, you can't beat the experience.
Meet the new guy

Early Spring Habitat Conditions in CanadaMarch 30, 2006
In the coastal region of British Columbia the snowpack is still good, precipitation is about normal and spring conditions are expected to be very good. The snow geese are now back in the Fraser Delta, and applying pressure to forage fields. This grazing pressure means that upland foraging habitat values have probably declined a bit, but foreshore conditions (due to eelgrass growth, for example) have improved for other species, so the net overall effect on habitat conditions is about zero. Initial crop damage assessments indicate that compensation for reseeding, etc. will be higher this year. The goose population is estimated at 80,000, which is within the normal range, but the ratio of juveniles:adults is significantly higher. Brant survey numbers in the coastal region were lower than expected. In the central Interior spring weather has arrived, and many more waterfowl are now moving through the area as the spring thaw progresses; new arrivals included tundra swans, snow geese, canvasbacks, redheads, and a single long-billed curlew. Without additional precipitation in the coming months, spring conditions are expected to be below average in the central Interior. In the southern and southeast Interior there has been little recent snowfall, but total snow accumulation is still about average (although mostly melted at lower elevations). Spring conditions in the southern and southeastern Interior are expected to be close to average and fair, respectively. The Peace and northeast regions received slightly more snow in the beginning of March but habitat conditions haven't improved. Runoff potential in the Peace region is still only fair at best. Spring breakup has now begun, and the first waterfowl (Canada Geese, of course) have shown up in the Dawson Creek area, both of which events are earlier than usual.

Do I look afraid?
Lets say you were doing a remodel of your bathroom and you had to rewire some circuts. So you wire up a whole new pathway for the lights and outlets and go to the basement crawl space to run the new 'home run' circut. Now while you're down there you see this thing hanging from what is likely a live electrical circut. Would you be concerned?
I thought so. So some electrician guy comes over to give you a little advice on your project and you show him this picture to see what he makes of it. Instead of saying something like "Oh that's a flugeramen" he says "I wonder what that is? How long has that thing been there?"
A little help from any of the thousands of people who read this blog on a daily basis would sure be great.

Check yourself before you wreck yourself
Holy crap. Steven Seagal has created a line of energy drinks. If you drink them it makes you act like a kung foo wannabe and think you are "all that". The next thing you know people will be pointing at you and saying "what a loser, how pathetic."
So remember to go right out and buy a case of Steven Seagals energy drink. If nothing else, when you run out of clay pigeons you can throw them up in the air and shoot them.
Man, I hate Steven Seagal.

The end.
UPDATE (04/03/06) - HISTORIC WINCHESTER PLANT CLOSES DOORS . . . After 140 years on Winchester Avenue, U.S. Repeating Arms Co. officially closed the doors to its New Haven, Conn., factory Wednesday. With the plant’s closure, production of the iconic Winchester Model 94 and Model 70 rifles and the Model 1300 shotgun will cease. City and state officials have been meeting with potential buyers of the plant, but, so far, no one has expressed an interest. There were reports that Smith & Wesson and Savage Arms toured the plant, but both companies said a purchase is not likely, the New Haven Register reports. Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell vows to continue to fight for jobs at the plant. USRAC parent company Herstal Group of Belgium said in January it would close the factory to concentrate on growing its current line of other Winchester shotguns and rifles. Winchester guns had been manufactured in New Haven since 1866. During World War II, more than 19,000 people worked at the New Haven factory.

Dark and lonely on a summer's night.
Kill my landlord. Kill my landlord.
Watchdog barking. Do he bite?
Kill my landlord. Kill my landlord.
Slip in his window. Break his neck.
Then his house I start to wreck.
Got no reason. What the heck?
Kill my landlord. Kill my landlord.
C-I-L my land lord!

In the money
I read somewhere that if you wanted to get peoples attention that you should start with the money shot. Well here it is. This is the money I made for folding the first greenie of the year a couple of years ago. I will have another of these shots in a few short months once the hunting season starts again. Hey, 10 bucks is 10 bucks.
I'd like to start by welcoming you all back to the new and improved blog. If you have any suggestions for us as to how to make the blog better or more enjoyable for you, I would appreciate it if you kept them to yourself. This is a spot for Fred and me to kill time untill we can once again fold massive quantities of ducks. Hunting season is only about 200 days away. Untill then we can stay busy by posting stupid things here for you to read. Lets get started.

Important bidness
Okay, there were some issues with the old blog. This one is going to be even better. Let's start by re-confirming some vital statistics.
#1 Charlton Heston is the greatest human being alive. Ever.
#2 Steven Seagal, on the other hand, blows chunk.
#3 We are the best hunters you know.
Okay, there you have it. Now that we are all caught up on the pertinent facts we can continue to bring you the same quality programing you have come to expect from the HOY 7 hunting team.
(Please feel free to Google the old hoy7ht blog for all our past moments, they sure were funny.)
