We Have a New Member!!!!!!!!

Hello everyone, I would like to introduce you to our newest member Waylon!  Waylon is an AKC pure breed Yellow Lab with excellent hunting lines.  He was born on Aug 10th and is just now 2 weeks old.  His eyes have just opened and he even took his first 2 steps in front of me on Wed. night.  I'll be visiting Waylon every few weeks until I get to pick him up on Mon. Oct. 8th (just before duck season opens).  At that point, I have taken the rest of the week off to begin his young Jedi training.  Welcome to the H7HT Waylon! (he's the one on the left that is a little bit bigger, a little bit darker and a real blocky head)

Rumor and Conjecture

Word on the street is that Jenny X is coming to town.

Yep. Jenny X.*

Last week Jenny called me at 4 in the morning to tell me that he was thinking of coming to the great NorthWest to do some slaying.  He also reminded me that, according to him, HE was the original catalyst for the H7HT.  Yeh, he and Scotty G. were the ones to first start me on the path to slaying and then I converted the remaining members of the H7HT.  Of course the debate rages on.
Anyway, he plans on breaking away from the New Hampshire redneck ways he embodies and figures to come to the Idaho hood to shoot whatever I have to offer.  Of course I was 'sleepy' at the time and remember in a haze that it was the beginning of October he was thinking of, maybe November,  but rest assured, I'm ready!

Anyone know where to slay some pheasants?
*(pictures do not accurately represent a timeline for the Great Jenny X.  He is currently much younger.)

New gear!

Today I went to the the Cabellas in Post Falls.  I had $100 burning a hole in my pocket.  Burning I say! So naturally the only thing to do was spend it on some great things for the upcoming season that I know is just around the corner.

All the items shown here are going to make boat trips better, even though the boat is currently out of commission. The guy that I brought the new motor to was buried in summertime boat fixin' projects and told me it would be 2 weeks till he had time to make mine the best 7.5hp motor to ever power a duck boat.  I'm still waiting patiently.

I will call him tomorrow and start bitching .

Heavi-shot. Used for slaying.
12 foot T.J. used for reteiving.
20 deek bag used for, well, deekes.
The best weighted anchors ever, because some of mine are still in the mud of Anderson Lake.
String for stringing.

Again, because They Care.

This is the D.U. envelope they sent with my complimentary return address stickers for joining D.U.

Last gift they sent was pilfered by the postal service mail room people so this time I expected greatness.  I got this.

Do Not Bend.. Folded in half like the Greenie I will take advantage of on the first day of the season.

 Is it a message?

Only time will tell.

The Dog Days of Summer

I like to think
The dog days of summer are code
They mean that dogs
Are thinking about getting on the road

Gravel highways
Leading them to a brand new place
Where ducks
Fly into the blind with their subtle grace

The masters
That they depend on for fun
Have trained
And loaded up their camo favorite gun

And soon
They get to jump from great boats
Towards a duck
Or a goose, or some other dead thing that floats

They retrieve
That thing the dog's master just shot
The smell
And the taste of what they've got

Is the reason
That every tough thing that they do
Brings happiness
To each dog and their hunt masters too

And the reward
Being all that they expect
Is a pet
Or a 'good dog' cause that's all that they get

Shot Gun Methodology

No, not that kind.
This is a pictorial demonstration of the proper way to do a shotgun.

-Chose an easy drinkin beer like a Budweiser, the king of beers.

-Use your car keys to poke a hole in the bottom side of the can. ( Keep the keys handy so you can drive later)

-Lift the hole in the can to your mouth.

-Pull the trigger.

-Drink the whole thing without spilling any on your two collar shirts or the 'M' watch.

-Belch.

-Repeat.

After watching several episodes of Barter Kings on TV I decided to try my luck at finding a new motor for the boat.  The old Hiawatha, while classic and cool, was far from the perfect choice for reliable trips into the backwaters of the CdA river.  I started with an empty Kleenex box and worked my way up to this Mercury 7.5hp outboard.  It now is at the mechanic getting the ole' once over to be sure that everything is going to be perfect.  I think it should power the boat well.  Soon Willie and I will be doing some scouting for new and exciting places to slay ducks and geese.  Many of the areas we want to hunt have been off limits because we can't find a way to cross the river but now that is moot.  Game on!

To cap off my day, when I returned home from my day of barter kingship my sweetie had made me chocolate chip cookies for no reason other than she's awesome.

Slaying with a 125 hp motor

Went out and slayed some tar yesterday around Mt. Adams.  It's no 7.5 hp but it got the job done.

Fishing Expert?

Here is on of the many fish caught last weekend.  With the caddis doing there magical dance Jose and Cliffy were able to catch their fill of fish last weekend.  Cliffy being the "Expert" that he is did not even have to put a hook in this fishes mouth!

Ode To the Caddis Fly

Caddis fly you dance on the water
without you the trout would go hungry
if the trout go hungry so do the injuns
with the injuns hungry there would be no casino
with no casino's there would be no fat white people in wheelchairs,
playing their magical games
thank you caddis fly for
your dance is intoxicating

New BB Gun Champion!

Jose joined Cliffy and myself last weekend on a float down the Deschutes to slay some trout.  Jose brought along a vintage 1960's daisy bb gun with approximately 450 bb's, which was enough to school these two members of the H7HT.  Note the casual style he implemented, golf cap, legs crossed and sandals.  I must admit it was even one of the harder courses ever produced.  We were shooting at Mexican cans and all but one were hanging in trees, due to location.  The one that was not was not hanging was  an actual floating target in the Deschutes river itself. Even with the darkness and the only light provided by Cliffys headlamp the man shot 8 out of 10.  It was a mind scramble.  Next up, ducks?
